Kissing Goodbye My Badass Backyard Zip line | Built This Thing From Scratch – Hola Costa Rica!
Farewell My Beautiful Backyard Zip line
Backyard Zip line Gathering
Reminiscing My Backyard Zip line
So as I leave the country a huge part of me is left behind.
My backyard zip line that has become my home out in nature is now a legacy and protected by my faithful tree fort guardians.
Such great times have gone down in the woods and I am thankful for all the memories created over the last year and a half.
A piece of my heart will forever up in the trees.
My Backyard Zip line – The Story Of How It All Began
Back when I was a commercial electrician I was on the construction site and one day about 100ft of seriously heavy duty 3/4″ safety rope mysteriously found its way to the back of my truck.
I was electrifyin’ for 4 long underpaid, over worked years and finally escaped from the job and moved to Costa Rica.
But enough of that.
I had this 100ft of rope for a long time just collecting dust in the garage.
One day I saw it and became inspired.
I grabbed all of it and made my way to the woods behind my house to find a tree to throw it up in.
I had no plan, just the thought of being high up in a tree that normally couldn’t be climbed..
After trial and error with a bunch if trees that wouldn’t work I found the perfect Oak tree. Not too mention Oak’s are rare out in these florida woods but none the less this was an Oak and it was perfect.
So I get a few ropes strung up the tree and it became much easier to climb.
A few days went by and I got the idea to put a hammock up in the tree.
To the unfamiliar mind it is quite sketchy but it actually ended up being quite sturdy and immediately became my fortress of solitude and one bad ass chill spot.
I was quite thrilled with myself and over the next few months it was my ultimate spot to unplug and relax.
I shared it with a few friends and the ideas continued pouring in as to the possibilities of this location.
My Backyard Zip Line - Two Buddies With A Dream
One of my best friends and right hand man Brandon spent a lot of time with me in the woods. The more time we spent their the greater ideas became and the construction continued.
The universe gifted us a broken down lacrosse net as well as additional rope. Within a few weeks we had a huge net in the tree that could up to 5 people.
This tree was now so much more and we continued to think of more possibilities.
A back yard zip line was definitely a thought but was no where near a reality.
As if this awesome treefort wasn’t enough, months later I went out to the woods again with more rope looking for another tree.
With a Back yard zip line in mind I found a tree about 200ft away. To this day I am not sure what type of tree it is but I can tell you that is much higher than the first tree.
At first it looked impossible as the first branch was 20ft high but my mind said hell yeah!
So I found a way…
After multiple attempts I managed to Indiana Jone’s style wrap the rope around the first branch and proceeded to climb up to that first branch.
Once I made I secured the rope and we had a way up to the first level of the tree.
Over the next 2 months with a lot of teamwork with my buddy Brandon we not only secured enough ropes to reach about 80ft up the tree. But we also managed to secure another lacrosse net that high up in this 2nd tree.
Brandon and I were officially treefort masters but our vision of our backyard zip line just wouldn’t die…
Because of this dream kept alive in both our minds there was nothing stopping us from achieving it.
That’s the power of thought and manifestation at work baby.
Just one problem
We needed more rope.
And we needed steel cable.
Luckily there are no coincidences and these items fell in our laps.
After many failed attempts of trying to bow and arrow a line across the treetops we managed to piece together 75ft pieces of rope from treefort nest to the other.
This involved climbing super skinny impossible trees, clearing away vines and extremely difficult maneuvering to piece the ropes together.
There was no other way to get a line across.
It probably took us 3-4 months of going out in the woods here and there to get this job done.
Once we finally had the ropes across we were nowhere near done.
Another few months go by and we finally manage to get 200ft of zip line up in the tree attached to a pully system.
Very carefully we pulled the cable across and secured it temporarily to the trees.
Then my good friend Jeff had access to a pork-chop and a come-along which would put tension on the cable.
So I wrapped a chain around the trunk of the tree and clamped the pork-chop to the cable. I started cranking the come-along and pulled it super tight.
It took 3 different attempts of cranking tension to the line from about 40ft up at the lower treefort to get the tension just right.
Several blisters later I had 4 cables secured at each end of the line and it had just enough slack to make the ride from 80ft high to 40ft low smooth.
Then the test runs commenced!
And those trees beat me up like a pinball! I was in pain for days.
Then as much we didn’t want to because of our deep love for the Earth, we had to remove some huge branches that were obviously in the way and making it unsafe.
Fortunately we didn’t have to kill any trees.
Brandon and I commenced a series of test runs and removed branches as we ran into them until we had a perfectly clear path across our backyard zip line.
From then on we had a full fledged treefort zip line system that rocks!
We had so much fun up in the trees, so many good memories.
We Did it!
The feeling of accomplishment and achieving a huge goal was so invigorating.
You should try it some time, set a goal and hit it! The feeling is priceless and rewarding.
Also keep in mind this the short story, there were huge obstacles that we had to conquer and because we were determined we didn’t let a thing stand in our way.
It goes to show you that anything you put your mind to you can attain.
So I now I have hit a time in my life in which I feel I must move on and bid farewell to my beautiful backyard zip line.
My soul has been pulling itself to the tropics for sometime. I finally made it and it has been a life changing experience so far.
But If anything I miss, it is my friends, the bro bowl and my zip line.
Fortunately Brandon, my little brother Tad and his friend Matt have enlisted as my treefort guardians.
(Btw: This treefort is TOP SECRET, so don’t hound any of them for the location, thanks!)
Its good to know the backyard zip line is in good hands of people who cherish and love it.
With their awesome minds who knows how many treeforts and zip lines will be constructed and connected by the time I return.
Why stop at two treeforts and a zip line?
With the right vision It could manifest into a treefort city interconnected via zip lines!
Wouldn’t that just be insane?
Farewell Backyard Zip line – Hola Costa Rica!
That ends the story of my backyard zip line.

Clair soaking some rays in Costa Rica
With Costa Rica being my new home I’ve been hearing they have some insane canopy zip line tours through the jungles down here.

Maybe I’ll create something wild down here in the junglishious mountains of Costa Rica.
If you want it bad enough, you might want to join me down here in the tropics.
It sure beats the U.S., but unfortunately so many people around the globe are stuck and suffering.
Its because their job controls them and they cant even fathom living this type of lifestyle
Imagine How You Will Feel When
You Achieve Financial Independence,

Maybe you will come join me in this tropical paradise
I was sick and tired of asking for permission to go to the bathroom and to take a break.
That’s why online marketing is the perfect solution for someone who desires to beat the system of J.O.B. slavery.
Again You’ll Want To Watch This
I make my own schedule and do what I want to while kicking it in my condo just a 2 minute walk from the beach.
Of course I work too and make money with my laptop but for the most part its Pura Vida, that means pure life here in Costa Rica.
